SOUNDINGS FOR SOUL
“Music Meditations as Internal Massage”
Sunday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 pm starting March 21st

“Like soundings taken from deep in the ocean, we sound our personal depths
for inner wisdom we may have missed in our stressful lives.
We all have inner guidance, but often overlook it
because we never arrive at a still enough place to listen.
Soundings for Soul gives you that opportunity.
It is a place to let down your burden and allow yourself
time to float and tune in to your soul’s frequency.”
(Devon L. Muhlert)
Soundings for Soul is a series of music mediation workshops presented by Devon Muhlert. Devon uses guided imagery and visualization, Tibetan and crystal bowls, together with her “beautiful meditative (flute) compositions” to facilitate relaxation. It's like having an internal massage. Simple chants and toning add to the experience to renew and recharge your spirit.
Participants are asked to choose an image and “massage” words into Haiku (Japanese minimalist poetry), an artistic expression which Devon believes also promotes well-being and helps crystallize the healing experience.
“The body is held together by sound and the presence of disease indicates that some sounds have gone out of tune. ” Dr. Deepak Chopra

Opening the Actor: Listening to Hear with Matt Brown
This acting workshop teaches the importance of actually hearing what is going on with the actor’s self and the others around them. We will listen and recognize the inflection of each of our own speech patterns as a group to enable us to feel the natural rhythms so that we can then incorporate them into performance. From inflections we move onto "listening" to the story that is in the "work" to grasp the message in a monologue or scene. A three time read through is the object of learning these steps. It will be my goal to teach each person to be able to read the materials provided three times through, put it down, and deliver the work as close to perfect from memory.
About Matt:
Vancouver born actor Matt Brown moved to Vernon in 2002 and has since made the Okanagan his home away. Matt started on stage at an early age and stuck to many dramatic activities growing up as well as some amateur film and television. He started his professional acting career when he was sixteen, joining a Shakespearean Theatre Company, and working for various companies afterward of many different directions. Matt now splits his work between the Okanagan and Vancouver, still travelling to do auditions for film and television. His credits range from theatre companies to various independent film roles to music videos (both directed and acted). Brown started sharing his passion in the form of teaching when he was twenty and started his teaching program in Vernon in 2006. He is the founder of Prodigy Productions, a company involved in many media facets as well as performance classes.

Volunteers Needed for the Smarties Program!
Attention anyone interested in helping out with our Smarties program.
If you have ever taken part in a smArties workshop, you will know what a wildly fun mix of artistic expression we introduce to children of all ages. They absolutely love it and keep coming back for more, more, more!!! In fact, a small community is forming around this art's group and we hope to continue this thriving progrAm well into the new year and beyond. But there is one wee thing we ask--we need some helpful volunteers!!!
(And, first of all, a big thank you to each one of you who have helped us so far. Your efforts are much appreciated whether it's packing up a table or putting away a few chairs at the end of class or clearing a tray of goodies...it is very much appreciated).
"so,what does a volunteer have to do?" you ask.
Just show up--one day each month would be great, but whatever you can oFFer we will gladly accept. The program runs each Sunday between 2-4. Our beloved volunteer will waltz their way into the studio at 1:30 and happily help to set up a few tables and ensure the supplies are out and ready for the instructor. After that, our volunteer welcomes the many enthusiastic little participants and helps them during the class. Next is offering up a delicious and possibly not-so-nutritious snack and then...clean up which is basically like Samantha on the olden days show, Bewitched, where you simply wiggle your nose and all of the mess magically tidies itself up. Yay! Just like at home. And on top of that, you feel so good and philanthropic.
and then...you are basically guaranteed a prize spot in nirvana or whichever celestial theatre you are planning to attend in your afterlife. Easy as that. So please pretty please give us a call and sign up for some volunteer time to keep our
Smarties program going.

Sponsors Needed!
Can you help with a cash donation, or gift of supplies, equipment, etc?
Our program relies on the generous support of our community.
It's a great chance to help kids and adults enjoy affordable art experiences. ($3 drop-in fee suggested)
To show our appreciation, your logo will appear on all SMARTIES printed and e-materials

Knitting Circle At Gallery Vertigo
With Janet Armstrong and Allison Griswold
The first and third Saturday morning of each month
Drop in sessions for knitters of all experience levels are held at Gallery Vertigo the first Saturday morning of each month. These sessions are open to anyone interested in knitting, whether new or experienced.
"These sessions are taking on a life of their own with knitters sharing their expertise and their stories. At our first knitting circle, one person picked up yarn and needles after a thirty year absence from knitting and her hands still remembered how. Another person picked up needles and knit for the very first time. Other knitters have years of experience. Everyone enjoys creating in a mutually supportive group atmosphere." (Judith Jurica, Director of Gallery Vertigo and new knitter).
There is a fee of $5.00 per person per session. Registration is not necessary. All proceeds will support the SMARTIES Sunday family drop-in art sessions held at Gallery Vertigo. Drop-ins are on the first and third Saturday of each month from 10am to noon.
Bring along yarn and needles, etc. and/or a project or two you are working on.
Allison and Janet are passionate, experienced knitters and love sharing their knowledge. Bring your knitting questions and problems, and they'll happily work out the solutions for you.
