Green
The Fifth Annual
North Okanagan Artists Alternative
Members Juried Exhibition

Francis Hatfield

In order to revisit a North Okanagan Artists Alternative tradition, our member artists have chosen a colour theme for this year's juried exhibition. In the past, our members have explored the colours red, blue and orange. Now we are taking a plunge into the green. It's a timely topic and one that has been explored in a myriad of ways by our 100 plus members. The notion of "green" has been enthusiastically taken up and presented to the viewer in a thought-provoking extravaganza of colour exploration. Come and consider the world in which we live from the rich and varied perspectives of our artists... come into the green.

There are also selected writings on the Subject of (YES!) Green. The choicest of green bits from our literary members.

On Saturday, March 24th, join us for a Green Gala.
Enjoy lively music, green food and green refreshments. Please wear your greenest green clothing to help us celebrate this glorious and colour event!

Comments from the Jurors
Total number of pieces submitted: 56
Number chosen: 22
Number not chosen: 34

The number one consideration in selection of works for this exhibition was whether or not the work addressed the theme. As the selection process unfolded, an interesting variety of media became a
sub-theme in the jurors' minds. Space was also a factor as the jurors placed the pieces in the available space and determined how many pieces could be incorporated to produce a visually pleasing whole.

The jurors would like to thank all the artists who participated and they were glad to have so many pieces to select the exhibition from. They all felt that this created a very strong and theme-specific result. All three jurors were impressed by the number of entries and want to commend the artists for participating. They commented that the large number of entries make this a very credible juried show which results in a very desirable entry on local artists Curriculum Vitae's

Judith Jurica
An image represents a moment in time. Creating or selecting an image allows me to isolate an idea in order to examine it in depth.....to deconstruct it.....to get at the essence of it. I like to play with the established order of things, to revel in unexpected juxtapositions. I feel compelled to seek the poetic in the countless permutations made possible when logic is thrown to the wind. (Jurica)
