High School Student Art Exhibition

BUGS, presents a selection of pieces from the fine arts students of Vernon’s secondary schools. Gallery Vertigo is extremely pleased to host this exhibition, the second annual exhibit of up and coming artists. Not only is this a show of student work, it will be installed by the students themselves and many of the decisions and duties related to the exhibition will be carried out by the students with the guidance of their teachers. The result is a very professional presentation combined with a great learning opportunity!

The exhibition features work created by students of Charles Bloom, Fulton Secondary, Vernon Secondary, Seaton Secondary, and Kalamalka Secondary Schools. Many different approaches and techniques are represented and submissions include 2-D, 3-D and mixed media works of art as well as musical and theatrical performances. The result is a glimpse of the issues, passions, and talents that are budding and burning in local youth culture. A huge thank you is due to our local high school art teachers for their cheerful participation. Considerable effort is required to plan and organize an exhibition involving this many artists and pieces and the teachers do a splendid job of pulling it all together. Ultimately, however, it is the artists whose enthusiasm makes this exhibition both a successful and an inspirational one each year. As evidenced by the excellent work in this show, the future looks bright for the arts here in Vernon!

Margarita Alejandre - Self Portrait

Having travelled to Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Mexico and points in between, Margarita Alejandre’s work is a reflection of the ever-changing environment and her interpretations of the earth.

Self Portrait is an exploration of the artist; exposed, vulnerable, and optimistic. The acrylic painting on wood panelling incorporates elements of the earth using layer upon layer of colour.

Margarita Alejandre's culture has always influenced her art and she pays tribute to her Mexican heritage with passion, creativity, and determination.

“My inspiration comes from some of the most beautiful places in the world and through imagination the two are fused together for a vibrant experience”. – Margarita Alejandre.

Her work varies from intricately painted flowers and custom made signs to mixed media paintings and stimulating drawings.
